Building Inclusive Sport Clubs
The Building Inclusive Sport Clubs program supported community sport organisations to embed sustainable inclusive practices and programs for people with disability to access sport.
The program was facilitated women leaders with disability. During the eight months, clubs implemented a new practice/program targeted to people with disability.
The five program locations included, Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia.
The Results

Program Outcomes
Knowledge
63% increase in knowledge of sport club administrators to create disability accessible enviroments at their clubs.
Confidence
59% increase in sport clubs administrators confidence to encourage people with disability to participate at their club.
Involvement
88% of club administators highlighted that involvement in the program increased opportunities for people with disability to be involved at their club.
The Process
1. Recruit & Train Facilitators
Women with disability were recruited and trained as facilitators, building leadership skills so they could guide clubs through the program.
2. Invite Clubs & Run Intro Workshops
Clubs expressed interest and joined an initial online workshop to learn about practical strategies and what the program involved.
3. Clubs Commit to Inclusion Projects
Clubs that wanted to continue committed to developing a program or initiative to improve access and inclusion for people with disability.
4. Mentor and Assess
Facilitators worked one-on-one with clubs for around eight months, supporting them to deliver their initiatives. Mentors also conducted formal check-ins and a practical assessment of progress.
5. Share and Learn Together
After the mentoring period, all clubs were invited into online Communities of Practice to exchange ideas, challenges, and successful approaches across the sector.
6. Reimagine Volunteering & Employment Forums
The program concluded with in-person forums that explored how clubs could create new and sustainable pathways for people with disability to volunteer and work in sport.
