Participation doesn't happen by chance

We build the capability of sport across Australia, so people with disability can take part in their community.

Who We Are

Disability Sports Australia is a national sports organisation focused on increasing participation in sport for people with disability.

Recognised by the Australian Sports Commission and a founding member of Paralympics Australia, we have shaped disability sport in Australia for more than 65 years.

People with disability should be able to choose how and where they participate, whether through disability specific sport, mainstream sport, or both.

We work with sporting organisations, clubs, governments and communities across Australia to strengthen the capability and connections that make participation possible.

Start Your Para Sport Journey

Delivered in partnership with Paralympics Australia, the Bupa Try Para Sports Series introduces people with disability to a range of para sports and helps participants start their journey.

Your $40 connects a person with disability to sport.

Your $40 helps a person with disability try sport in their local community. Last year, 3,309 people took part through Abilities Unleashed.

The numbers tell the story

Participation in sport remains significantly lower for people with disability.

75%

75% of people with disability want to play sport.

14%

Only 14% participate in sport each week

60%

People with disability are 60% less likely to meet national physical activity guidelines.

The gap between wanting to participate and being able to is not accidental. We are closing it.
