Disability Sports Australia is seeking a Company Secretary. This is a unique opportunity to support inclusive sport and help drive DSA’s mission.

Disability Sports Australia (DSA) is a national non-profit, registered charity, and the recognised National Sporting Organisation for people with disability. Our mission is to increase grassroots participation in sport by breaking down barriers and creating inclusive pathways.

For more than 60 years, DSA has been at the forefront of disability sport in Australia — beginning with wheelchair sports and continually expanding opportunities nationwide. Today, we are disability-agnostic, working with sporting organisations across all codes to build their capability and ensure sport is inclusive and accessible for everyone.

This commitment is reflected in our new Strategic Plan 2025–2028, which sets out a bold vision for every person with disability to participate in sport in the way that works best for them.

Voluntary Company Secretary

DSA is inviting expressions of interest for one Voluntary Company Secretary.

By facilitating effective board and committee operations and upholding DSA’s values, the Company Secretary helps drive DSA’s mission to promote inclusive sport and recreation opportunities for Australians with disabilities.

Skills Sought

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work with a complex and diverse group of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and communications skills.
  • Strong problem solving and issues resolution skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable and proactive approach.
  • High degree of professional ethics and integrity.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and governance practices, particularly within the not-for-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with governance and board management software to facilitate efficient record-keeping, document circulation, and meeting coordination

 

Although the below are not essential they can be of assitance for this role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law, Business, Commerce, or Economics.
  • Additional qualifications or experience in sports administration and sports governance (preferred but not essential)
  • Knowledge of the Australian Sports Commission Sport Governance Principles.
  • You must also take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that DSA complies with the Corporations Act and general law.
