Disability Sports Australia is seeking a Non-Executive Director to join its Board. This is a unique opportunity to support inclusive sport and help drive DSA’s mission.

Disability Sports Australia (DSA) is a national non-profit, registered charity, and the recognised National Sporting Organisation for people with disability. Our mission is to increase grassroots participation in sport by breaking down barriers and creating inclusive pathways.

For more than 60 years, DSA has been at the forefront of disability sport in Australia — beginning with wheelchair sports and continually expanding opportunities nationwide. Today, we are disability-agnostic, working with sporting organisations across all codes to build their capability and ensure sport is inclusive and accessible for everyone.

his commitment is reflected in our new Strategic Plan 2025–2028, which sets out a bold vision for every person with disability to participate in sport in the way that works best for them.

Board Opportunity 

DSA is inviting expressions of interest for one Non-Executive Director to join its independent, skills-based Board for a term of up to three years, commencing at the November 2025 Annual General Meeting.

The Board provides strategic oversight and governance to DSA, including setting the organisation’s direction, monitoring performance, and supporting the growth of programs.

Director positions are voluntary, with meetings held online every six to eight weeks. Reasonable travel and accommodation expenses are reimbursed for DSA-related activities.

Skills Sought

In line with the Board Skills Matrix and upcoming retirements, DSA is particularly seeking applicants with expertise in:

  • Public or not-for-profit sector leadership
  • Government advocacy and relations
  • Public relations and communications (media, strategic communications, issues management)
  • Philanthropy, fundraising, and sponsorship (major gifts, corporate partnerships)

We are looking for Board members who will actively advocate for Disability Sports Australia across all strategic priorities. Ideal candidates will be able to question and challenge constructively, contribute diverse perspectives, and bring influence to advance our mission

  • A one-page cover letter outlining relevant experience and motivation for applying

All nominations will be assessed by the DSA Nominations and Remuneration Committee. Recommended candidates will be presented to members prior to the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 25 November 2025.
