Disability Sports Australia

Our Impact

The Disability Sports Australia impact is about ensuring every person with disability can be active, connected, and included in sport. Each year, our programs and partnerships open doors for thousands of Australians. As a result, people with disability gain confidence, enjoy movement, and build stronger community connections.

Measuring our impact

Building inclusive opportunities through sport

We measure our impact in more than numbers. For example, we track the confidence, joy, and connection that sport brings to people with disability.

In addition, our programs provide pathways — from first experiences to helping clubs and coaches build inclusive skills. Therefore, our impact reaches both individuals and the sporting sector.

Sport is a powerful tool for inclusion. For example, our programs reduce barriers and create welcoming environments.

In addition, we provide training and resources that give coaches, clubs, and volunteers the skills to be inclusive. As a result, more people with disability feel supported to join and continue in sport.

Disability Sports Australia and UN Sustainable Development Goals

UN Sustainable Development Goal 3 icon: Good Health and Well-Being

Goal 3

Through Abilities Unleashed and Try Para Sport, we create opportunities to enjoy physical, mental, and social benefits of sport. These experiences often spark lifelong participation. Therefore, they contribute to positive health and wellbeing outcomes.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 icon: Quality Education

Goal 4

We provide learning that builds capability across the sports sector. For example, Accessibility Champion and Building Inclusive Sport Clubs offer scalable online training. In addition, our practical workshops help apply this knowledge in real settings.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 10 icon: Reduced Inequalities

Goal 10

Our programs reduce barriers and promote equality. Guided by the Disability Advisory Committee, lived experience informs decisions. Campaigns such as Changing Lives Through Sport also raise awareness and shift perceptions. As a result, participation gaps close and sport becomes more representative of our community.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 11 icon: Sustainable Cities and Communities

Goal 11

We bring sport to where people live. For example, we activate schools, councils, and leisure centres, often during off-peak times. In partnership with Blacktown City Council, we are developing the Blacktown Disability Sports Centre. This project demonstrates how local investment increases long-term access.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 17 icon: Partnerships for the Goals

Goal 17

We collaborate across all levels of sport and community. This includes grassroots clubs, councils, national organisations, governments, and corporate partners. In addition, partnerships allow us to expand programs and share knowledge. As a result, we achieve more together than any single organisation could alone.

CREATE LASTING IMPACT TOGETHER

Partnerships That Grow Disability Sport

Our impact is possible because of partners. By working with Disability Sports Australia, your organisation helps more people with disability take part in sport. As a result, they build confidence, connection, and wellbeing.

Partnerships also give us the resources to expand programs, support coaches and volunteers, and make local sport more accessible.

Together, we can strengthen communities and ensure sport works for every body across Australia.
